As the leaves start to change colors and autumn makes its way in, it brings with it a unique and captivating charm that serves as the perfect backdrop for myriad events, from weddings and corporate functions to intimate gatherings and festive celebrations. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite fall event design trends (and some of our seasonal rental picks) for you to weave into your upcoming celebration.

Expected vs. Unexpected Color Palettes

Fall is synonymous with nature's breathtaking transformation, and we’re all about harnessing its beauty to craft captivating settings. Each year, we see a strong preference for earthy tones like deep rust, warm terracotta, and rich olive green. Yet, a lot of people are shifting towards incorporating jewel tones or unexpected color combinations at their fall events. “[We] foresee some other fun palettes like lime green and cherry, lavender and nude, and mauve and rust,” say Claudia Lapeña and Julia Conrad of Rococo Floral Co. These different color combinations not only evoke the essence of traditional fall design but can also add a touch of the unexpected. "We as designers see a shift from muted color palettes, to palettes that are more saturated and focused on texture and seasonality," says Leslie Lee of Leslie Lee Floral Design. "We encourage clients to embrace nature and what it’s doing, at the time of their event. [Another] great way to elevate your table scape is incorporating unique elements using seasonal fruits and vegetables (think figs, berries, artichokes, etc.), and vessels that complement the overall event aesthetic. Being bold and unique with color and design choices is always encouraged!"

Fall Trends

Trying to incorporate these colors into your fall event while trying to steer away from the traditional red, orange, yellow color palette can be intimidating, but there are several ways you can do this. For example, pair our Laurel Ivory linen with our Tuscany Plum Napkin and Charleston Champagne Flatware for a muted fall palette that still features a pop of color. If you are looking for a more neutral tablescape, opt for our new Beckett Ivory linen, which features a beautiful textured pattern for added interest. Our tried and true Belfast Flax linen and Formenti Taupe Linen Napkin offer a neutral backdrop so you can place emphasis on adding color with your floral arrangements. For muted hint of color, use our soft, sage colored Seagrass Aloe linen or our water-colored floral linen, Evelyn Grey.

Organic Elements: Bringing Nature Indoors

Incorporating organic elements is another key trend. From wooden tables like our Rustic Brown Farm Tables adorned with seasonal flowers to incorporating natural textures like our Ibiza and Tweed linens, the goal is to bring embrace the great outdoors. Think ranunculus arrangements dried leaves, and even foraged branches, moss, ferns and more as stunning decor elements that embody the rustic elegance of the season. “We've noticed people becoming more interested and open to having elements other than florals on the table and bud vases can really play into this,” say Claudia Lapeña and Julia Conrad, noting clients are shifting towards elements like candles, fruits and veggies, or custom pieces as their focal pieces versus traditional florals.

Extend these organic elements to your tabletop pieces. Include charger plates like our Tondo Charger, Winnie Charger, Rattan Light Brown Charger, and Rustico Grey Wood Charger to bring a natural feel to settings. If wood and rattan elements aren’t quite what you are looking for, use China with organic shapes like our Waverly White & Gold China, Oliver Pearl China, and tried and true Finezza China. These China pieces project a sense of approachable warmth and earthy charm while adding an element of refined elegance.

Intimate Affairs: Embracing Coziness and Connection

It’s no surprise that when it comes to fall events, people naturally gravitate towards creating a cozy and inviting ambiance that encapsulates the essence of the season. Fall events are leaning towards creating spaces that feel intimate and prioritize meaningful connections no matter the number of guests attending. Imagine a fireside chat under the stars, a dinner party lit by soft candlelight, or an outdoor wedding with cherished guests. This trend allows for personalized experiences, deeper conversations, and a sense of togetherness without decreasing your guest count.

Create an ambiance of comfort and sophistication at your event with the inclusion of inviting lounge spaces, where your guests can unwind and mingle in style. Elevate the experience by combining our exquisite Phoebe Sage Sofa or luxurious Orson Leather Sofa with the charming Otto Side Chairs, designed to provide both a vintage aesthetic and relaxation. Farm-to-Table Delights: Seasonal Menus and Local Flavors

When it comes to fall event cuisine, farm-to-table is the name of the game. As the harvest season reaches its peak, event menus are inevitably infused with seasonal ingredients that celebrate local flavors and artisanal craftsmanship. Guests can delight in dishes featuring roasted root vegetables, pumpkins and squash, apple-inspired treats, and hearty soups. The emphasis is on both comfort and seasonality. “Fall brings forth cozy cravings,” says Lizzy Desbia of Russell Morin Catering & Events. “Clients are loving twists on comfort classics – think gourmet interpretations of pumpkin, apple, and spice. But it's not just about the flavors; it's about the presentation too,” she says.

Fall Food

“Changing up the way it's served in unique vessels adds an exciting twist.” Whether you’re serving cuisine buffet- or family-style, we offer a number of serving vessels to coincide with that quintessential fall look. Our Melamine Farmhouse Serving Platter and Bowls, for example, feature a speckled design that will give your table a sense of earthy and neutral toned comfort perfect for the fall season. For a more rustic feel, try our Melamine Faux Wood Serving Platters, perfect for serving festive hors d’oeuvres in style. The MiniByte Copper Saute Pans are a great vessel option to be placed on top of wooden serving platters. These add a striking secondary tone on top of wood that will make your appetizers pop. Our Bamboo Solid Wood Risers and Bamboo Hollow Wood Risers compliment any décor and add versatility to your banquet or buffet tables. The varying heights of these risers help draw attention to your seasonal delights.

Cocktail Hour: Sip in Style

Who says bar setups have to be standard and predictable? We’re seeing a rising trend in getting creative with bar aesthetics and turning these functional areas into Instagram-worthy focal points. Rustic wooden bars like our Natural Cedar Bar, adorned with cascading vines and clusters of fairy lights, can create an enchanting forest-like atmosphere while our Bruce Black & Butcher Bar adds a mix of rustic and modern elements. If you are looking to add a splash of color, check out our Augusto Sage Panel Bar and Raelyn Lux Sage Back Bar for a sleek, sage green back drop.

Don’t forget the details – elegant glassware and copper accents can transform a simple bar area into a visual masterpiece. Dress up your cocktail hour with glassware like our Smoke Stemware Set, Amber Fenton Goblet, Purple Fenton Goblet, or several of our Gala Water Goblets. Cocktail hour is a time for mingling and indulgence, and fall-themed drinks in unique glassware can add a twist to your event. Consider crafting signature cocktails that highlight seasonal flavors like apple cider, cinnamon, and cranberries. For a sophisticated touch, incorporate herbs and spices like rosemary or nutmeg.

Stationery: Personalized and Whimsical Details

The invitation sets the stage for the event, and this fall’s stationary trends are all about capturing the spirit of the season while adding personal touches. Incorporating watercolor illustrations of nature can infuse an elegant touch of autumn into your invitations. When we asked Emily Murray from Something Borrowed Event Décor about any new materials or textures that have growing popularity in event décor, she explained that “[t]his fall we’re designing with texture in mind and working with leather, linen, and stone to bring their signage and day of details to life.” These accents create a tactile experience that guests will truly appreciate. When creating more personalized and meaningful stationary suites, Kate Lemish from Elated Paper Co. emphasizes that “The trend of including family monograms or crests, engagement location illustrations, and other personal touches adds depth and significance to the stationery. Incorporating meaningful symbols, monograms, or crests that hold significance to the couple can create a sense of identity and personal connection with the invitation suite.” Carry this theme through to place cards, menus, and other event signage to maintain a cohesive aesthetic.
